National/General Websites

Here are some of the best, most interesting, interactive websites for young people. Get involved in a national movement of youth voice and leadership. See what other young people think, see, and feel from all over the country.
www.alternet.org/wiretap/ -  On-line magazine that voices opinions of a wide range youth. The best part is that you can respond and post up what you feel about the article and other people’s comments.

www.teenink.org - Teen Ink is a monthly print magazine, website, and a book series all written by teens for teens.

www.edutopia.org/getstarted/students.php -- We hope you will find inspiration in what students are able to accomplish when they are given more control over their learning, when subjects are integrated (and have real-world application), and when students have access to outside experts and resources.

www.soundout.org - SoundOut provides resources to students and adults interested in school improvement. The focus is on promoting meaningful student involvement by engaging students as partners in school change.

www.wkcd.org - (What Kids Can Do)- What Kids Can Do, Inc. (WKCD) is a national organization dedicated to making public the voices and views of adolescents. WKCD have involved Oakland Schools in their nation wide project “Students as Allies”. Also highlighted on the site is Darrick Smith and the TryUMF program from Oakland Technical High School.

www.underground-railroad.org - Underground Railroad is building a vibrant movement that speaks to and involves young people of color as artists and cultural workers.

www.idealist.org/kt/Idealist Kids & Teens is designed to introduce you to the world of nonprofit organizations and the activities and issues that they pursue. Kids & Teens will help you find:
  • Resources and information on how to start a project to help your local and/or global community.
  • Information about youth volunteering.
  • Nonprofit websites for young people dealing with issues like human rights, the environment, and the arts.
  • Organizations that can help you with personal questions and problems.
